Master Your Market … Start A Mastermind Group

Last week I wrote about the importance of mentorships for women in business. This week I’d like to share a concept that has been instrumental to my success: starting a mastermind group.
My Mastermind Group
I first learned about mastermind groups when I signed up for an online marketing class. As a bonus for purchasing the $2,000 class, I was placed in a group with several other people who had similar business goals. Twice a month, we had phone sessions where we would:
· Discuss goals
· Give and get feedback
· Brainstorm new ideas
· Problem-solve
Now, nearly a year later, I don’t know what I’d do without that mastermind group. It keeps me constantly inspired, helps me tackle problems and holds me accountable for my business goals. The mastermind group alone was worth the $2K I paid for the class.
Starting Your Own Mastermind Group
You can start a mastermind group for free. Simply gather a group of friends or colleagues together and schedule a regular time to meet, either by phone or in person. (Experts recommend five to eight people per mastermind group.) Don’t know anyone who might be interested in a mastermind group? Visit an online forum specific to your field, then ask around. You can even hang a small notice around town.
It may take a little work to organize a mastermind group. But once you do, you too will wonder how you survived without it.
Have you ever been part of a mastermind group? Let us know in the comments section below.

We call our ideas ‘sharing and caring’ and that’s what it’s all about. Bringing in younger members offsets the ‘experience’ with new ideas and inspiration. It helps everyone.
That’s one of the best parts of Mastermind groups — you get a diverse assortment of opinions and suggestions.
Yes, I have been in many different kinds of mastermind groups. The first one I was ever invilved in , I was a participant. I was relatively a newbie so to speak and it was years ago. We had a very diverse group of business people in our group which allowed us to problem solve from many different angles.
Although we met for about 6 months and dissolved, that group became my tribe and I know that I could call on anyone of them today to seek wise counsel.
Since that time I have been a mastermind facilitator for a program called Formula 5.
I have learned even more as in this role as the preparation and stimulating questions that are often asked keep me at the top of my game.
Both were great and I encourage that you first be an active participant of a mastermind before you jump right into to being a facilitator or leader.
Both roles were powerful to take my business to the next level each time.
I think it is good to have an activity for the participants to be involved in doing in between meetings and then meet back and share their experiences or test results.
