Self-Promotion For Introverts

Self-Promotion For Introverts Video

Whether you own a small business or work “for the man,” self-promotion can help you succeed. But for many people, self-promotion seems so darn slimy. No wonder it’s often prefaced with the word “shameless.”

I have yet to read Nancy Ancowitz’s book, Self-Promotion For Introverts, but I found this video on Amazon and thought it contained some helpful tips for successful self-promotion. It also made me laugh, which never hurts – especially when you’re dealing with an uncomfortable topic.

Amazon wouldn’t let me embed the video, but you can click on the image above to view it in a new window.

What are your experiences with self-promotion?

I recognized myself a little in that video :) I have learned to trust my instincts over time and am getting better at self promotion but still have a ways to go. Looking forward to reading your review!

Very nice video. Its very funny but very useful too for newbies in business. I agree that self promotion is the basic need for success in this world.

  • I’ve always wondered about that phrase: “shameless self-promotion.”

It’s like…I need to feel shame for being confident enough to promote my brand, myself, and my product?

Sure, slimy promotion is, well, slimy. But in the long run those aren’t the people that you hear about, unless it’s on the front page of the news as they’re being carted off to trial and then prison (Martha Stewart?) or blasted all over the online forums for not being genuine.

The people that you hear about promoted themselves proudly, not shamefully, and it takes confidence and pride to do it properly. Look at Tony Robbins, Robert Kiyosaki, Amanda Hocking, Frank Kern, and others that you look up to. Full of confidence, and feeling no shame for doing what they believe in.

Just get out there and do it!

  • Hello Kelly! Thanks for sharing the video! I’m in sales & marketing for three years now and from the beginning of my career, I’ve known myself to be extrovert. Of course, I still do feel conscious every time I self promote and my heart beats faster. But at the end of the day, it makes me feel better and that’s what matters most to me.

Thanks for the video, you’re right that laughs are a good way of getting the point across. I can read until the cows come home what I’m ‘supposed’ to do … but it doesn’t work for me. I might come second, but at least I’ll still feel happy!
