8 Product Marketing Strategies To Raise Online Holiday Sales
This is a guest post by Michelle Strassburg, head of marketing at hardwood flooring sellers Wood and Beyond. Michelle has over 10 years experience managing online product marketing and e-commerce.
If you want to increase your online product revenue this holiday season, you’ve got three options. You can increase traffic to your online store, which requires a huge investment of time (if you do it yourself) or money (if you hire an SEO company.)
You can also raise the prices of your products across the board. While that strategy might work, you risk pricing yourself out of business. The third option, which I find the most compelling, is to improve your online product marketing across the store.
Eight Ways To Increase Online Revenue Using Smart Product Marketing
1. Include clear prices and multiple calls to action. The keys to raising online product sales are to provide relevant information and eliminate doubts. Each product should include a detailed description, price and calls to action such as “buy now” or “add to basket.”

2. Diversify product offers. By diversifying offers across the store, you appeal to as many shoppers as possible. Some people may find “buy one get one free” offers appealing, while others may be enticed by stock clearance offers or free shipping. By positioning different product offers across the store, you increase your chances of converting more visitors into shoppers.
3. Demonstrate product savings. Many online stores can offer better value than traditional stores. The key is to communicate those savings to the shopper with clever product marketing. One way is to compare the retail price with your price. If you can show savings using percentage against the RRP or list price, the results are even better. Amazon.com does this well.
4. Position top sellers well. You have just a few seconds to convince visitors that YOU offer the right online product at the best price. If most of your store’s web traffic lands on the homepage, display a few best-selling products “above the fold” (in the top section of the web site that can be seen without scrolling down.) Don’t be shy about revealing which products are best sellers … shoppers value wisdom of the crowd.
5. Drop shipping charges. Excessive shipping can contribute to a higher basket drop-off rate. Consider dropping your shipping rates temporarily to increase holiday sales. Another suggestion to avoid abandoned baskets is to provide a shipping estimate.
6. Recommend quality online products. Shoppers often start by researching which online products suit their needs and budget. To increase conversions, consider recommending specific products and explain why. Stores are naturally seen as authority figures to shoppers, so your product recommendations will go a long way.
7. Show customer reviews. Offering real customer reviews of online products, some glowing and some less, will keep visitors engaged for longer and boost the site’s credibility. Consider making the reviews stand out on the page by using a star rating function.
8. Brag about your product prices. In some cases you might be able to demonstrate savings against your online competitors. If you’re able to prove that a saving could be made, consider pointing it out.
