How One Woman Photographer Started Her Own Street Team
When you see the magic captured by Beth Cardwell’s photography, you’ll have no trouble believing that she’s often swamped with work. But talent is only one ingredient in her successful photography business. Beth is also a brilliant marketer whose creative promotions are constantly attracting new clients.
Last February, Beth offered mini photo sessions for custom kids’ valentines. In December, she invited blog readers to nominate loved ones for a photo session and vote on the winners.
The Senior Street Team
Beth’s latest promotion wowed me so much that I wanted to share it with you. Like many photographers, high school senior portraits make up a big part of Beth’s business. To help spread the word about her services, she’s creating her own team of senior representatives.
The concept is simple: high school seniors promote Beth’s photography services, and receive free stuff in return.
What’s In It For Them
To help them in their efforts, Beth is creating personalized “rep cards:”
“I have a designer that came up with these cool, clever cards that are cut in shapes – business card size,” Beth explained during a phone interview. “They’re templates that I can drop my pictures into.”
The senior reps also get a mini photo album, two free photo sessions and images to use on their Facebook account. More than that, though, the seniors get valuable marketing experience:
“It’s like a mini part-time job for them in a way, just to be able to market themselves in another business. It’s certainly a great way to gain experience.”

Well, I know that if I were a high school senior, this would be something I’d jump all over! What a great way to get lots of exposure in a really great market as well as teaching them more about social media, marketing, and building confidence?
A really good photo shoot goes a long way towards a good self image, too!

I agree, Delena! Beth is great at arranging her promotions to have a “big picture” benefit … pun not intended
Such a clever idea! I’ve seen other photographers do something similar, but not quite like Beth does it!
