When creating a Facebook ad, you need to consider the kind of image to use. The image chosen should be relevant to whatever service or product you are selling. It also needs to be a refreshing and positive photo which will grab people’s attention.
If you have the wrong image, it won’t matter how good the text in your advert is. The following are some of the things to consider when selecting an image for your Facebook ad.
1. Be relevant.
The image selected needs to be related to whatever it is you are offering. For instance, you might be an education consultant looking for photos related to education. You could get a photo of a smiling student holding a folder, or a smiling graduate wearing a graduation gown. You could also have a photo of students attending a lesson.
An image of buildings in a learning institution would not attract as much attention as an image that features people’s faces.
If your advert is related to weight loss or fitness, you could use photos of people exercising. However, since such photos are being used by many others, it would be advisable to look for something more unique. For instance, you could try images of food. You could have an image of a juicy steak or a large burger, and then find a way of relating that to your fitness or diet offer.
Whenever possible, be sure to use photos of people. The fact is, people attract people. An image of scenery is not likely to attract more attention than an image of a happy person.
2. Use your own photos.
If you have a camera, you can always take your own photos. Shoot pictures of yourself or your friends, objects around your house or office, or anything else that is related to your product or service. Try out different lighting and different angles.
While doing this, remember the white and blue Facebook colors. Your images will stand out more when contrasted with these colors. For instance, colors like purple, red, black and orange stand out from, rather than blend in with, Facebook’s colors.
3. Use custom images.
Use programs such as Photoshop to create text as an image. Though this method can be very effective, it has now become too common. If you decide to use a custom image, make sure you don’t have too much text. If you try to fit in many words, the image will end up looking very cluttered.
4. Have a target market in mind.
It is very important to consider what kind of market you are targeting. Is your product or service targeted at teenagers, professionals, mothers or university students?
Use images that are aspirational. When people see your image, it should cause them to think “I really need to be like that person.” For instance, an image of a stressed student might attract people’s attention. However, such an image is not aspirational. Not many people want to be like that.
A more appropriate image would be one showing a happy student studying in the library. However, you might need to test both options to find out what would work best for your target market.
Have you ever run a Facebook ad? If so, were you happy with the results, or are there things you’d change?
