Featured Woman in Business: Lauri Davenport of Little Pink Designs
One Woman Marketing’s Featured Women in Business offers a firsthand look at the marketing experiences of women entrepreneurs and small business owners around the globe. This week features Lauri Davenport of Little Pink Designs.
I have been artistic soul since I was just a wee thing. I was always drawing, cutting or making something look pretty. Once I made the decision in college to seek a career in doing something creative, my wings took me where I needed to go.
I ended up finding my dream job at age 23 just a year and a half out of college. This is where I found my calling. I worked with a leading online stationery company where I was the lead in-house designer and was responsible for creating thousands of exclusive stationery products.
It was the first time that I really felt challenged and it felt good. I had the privilege and freedom to create what I wanted. It was at this point in my life where I was given opportunities I had only dreamed about. I created stationery for several celebrities, had work featured in numerous magazines and on national television more than once.
At this point I knew I was ready to do it on my own. This is when Little Pink Designs was born: the summer of 2009. My husband and I were finally making our dreams come true, owning and operating our own business.

While our website was underway, we began discussing marketing strategies. With a fairly conservative budget, we first sought out ways to advertise that would be of no cost to us. We started with Facebook. We knew this would spread the word quickly and gain support from people all over the world. I also used my personal blog as advertising. I have had a blog for over two years and have a pretty loyal following.
Every product that leaves our office has our logo and website on the back. We feel this is also a ‘free’ way to advertise as these cards are sent out. Every recipient of our products has the opportunity to come check out our website. Not only is this no cost to us, but it is also no cost to them.
From here, we have chosen to advertise on several creative blogs and websites. We choose sites that have a minimum of 1,000 hits a day and are geared towards our demographic. We are able to target a younger group of women who are inspired to create. This is a relatively cheap way to advertise to a large group of people all over the world.

As we are a new company we are learning how to stretch our dollar most effectively. We use a quality analytical program to track our website visitors and how each campaign is working. We are learning more with each passing day and loving every minute of the challenge.
