A Hunter Shoots a Bear … and Sells Lots of Correction Tape
September2nd,2010 | Video
This YouTube video commercial for Tipp-Ex, “A Hunter Shoots a Bear,” is one of the best pieces of viral advertising I’ve seen since Old Spice dominated the web. After a short scene in which a bear attacks a campground, YouTube viewers can choose to let the hunter shoot the bear … or not.
The “A Hunter Shoots a Bear” video then takes a creative twist, letting viewers type in virtually any action they want. (I suggest “loves” or “kills” … you can figure out the adult versions on your own.)
Sure, “A Hunter Shoots a Bear” rips off Burger King’s Subservient Chicken. But the video is bound to inspire lots of brand interaction as people look for online distractions before the big holiday weekend. Read more »
Real Women in Business Talk About Real Marketing Campaigns
August8th,2010 | Real Women In Business, Video
I found this video via Savor the Success, an online women’s business community I’m exploring. (I haven’t decided if I want to shell out $50 a month for a premium membership, but I’ll let you know if I do.)
Not only is Angela Jia Kim a super-smart marketer, she’s also descriptive about the process she went through to create this poster for a press event. The world needs more savvy women business owners talking openly about their marketing!
I look forward to watching more videos from Angela, and I hope hers will inspire you to create a video, article or blog post about your own marketing process. If you do, let me know and I’ll share it with the world!
Public Speaking Tips From the Singers’ Handbook
July29th,2010 | Video
Many of us had a hobby as a child that we abandoned in adulthood. Mine was singing. I took voice lessons from age 7 to 17, and while I rarely sing in public anymore, those 10 years taught me a lot of tips and techniques I now use in public speaking engagements.
Public speaking, like singing, can be nerve wracking, but it’s a great way to build credibility and market your small business.
In the video above, filmed at F&M Toastmasters, I talk about two techniques for public speaking I learned as a singer. If you’re not into Puccini arias, fast-forward to 1:25 to get to the actual speaking tips.
Thanks to Tom Mahoney for filming this!
A Video Marketing Debut: Making a Video to Promote The Book, “Sew Retro”
July28th,2010 | Real Women In Business, Video
Editor’s note: I love the videos popping up on Amazon.com, so when friend and colleague Judi Ketteler mentioned that she created a video to promote her new book, I was curious about the process. She generously agreed to write a guest blog post about the experience.
For more information about Judi Ketteler, visit www.judiketteler.com or check out her book, Sew Retro.
I’m a total junkie for sewing books. I love looking through them for inspiration and ideas. I make good use of the library, however, and I’m pretty selective about what I’ll buy.
The Inspiration Behind the Video
I was browsing Amazon one night, when I came across Anna Maria Horner’s video for Handmade Beginnings: 24 Sewing Projects To Welcome Baby. After watching it, I immediately fell in love with the book and everything about her: the adorable family, and the great projects for mamas and babies. Read more »
